The Hilton Birmingham Metropole works with Sita to recycle our waste.
The following items are separated:
Dry mixed recycling
Paper, metal and plasic
By segregating food waste from our other waste streams onsite we divert waste from landfill. Our food waste is then turned into compost using the latest technology.
Although cardboard is classified as dry mixed recycling, due to the level used in the hotel, cardboard is baled in order to save space.
Every metric ton (1,000kg) of waste glass recycled into new items saves 315 kilograms (690lb) of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere during the creation of new glass.
General waste is material that cannot be recycled into something else for instance items such as laminated documents, kitchen towels and contaminated food packaging.
Our hotel is audited to understand what waste is being put into our general waste.
